Licence

Manifold is proprietary software, and it is free of charge. Those two things are often confused, so this page says both plainly: you pay nothing, and the program is not open source.

What you may do

Install it on any machine you own or control, and use it for anything — personal or commercial — at no charge. Whatever you write with it is yours. Manifold claims no interest in your documents, and saves them in a plain format on your own disk that can be read without it.

What is reserved

Versions up to 0.10.0 are different, and stay different

Manifold was released under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later, up to and including version 0.10.0. That licence is not withdrawn and cannot be. Anyone who received one of those versions keeps every right it gave them, including the right to use, study, change and pass on the corresponding source. Versions after 0.10.0 are under the terms above.

What Manifold is built on

Other people's work, each under its own licence, which these terms do not alter and cannot override — KaTeX, MathLive, ProseMirror, React, Tauri and Harper among them, all under permissive licences such as MIT and Apache 2.0. Every one is listed with its licence in full in the notices file that ships with the application, in Settings → About.

And what it merely talks to

Some optional features work with software that is not part of Manifold and that you install yourself — a TeX distribution, a spelling dictionary, a model runtime, a browser. Those are governed entirely by their own terms, and running one from Manifold does not put it under these.

No warranty

The software is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. Nothing here limits any right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited by agreement.
